At All Pets Sitting, the safety, comfort and well-being of every dog in our care is always our top priority. One of the most important — and often overlooked — parts of safe grooming is understanding that different dog breeds are predisposed to different health conditions, some of which can directly impact the grooming process.
Being informed about your dog’s breed tendencies and keeping us updated on any pre-existing conditions helps us provide the safest and most comfortable experience possible.
Breed-Specific Predispositions Are Real
Dogs are not one-size-fits-all — especially when it comes to health. Selective breeding has created incredible variety, but it has also made certain breeds more prone to specific conditions.
For example:
Golden Retrievers are especially prone to chronic and recurrent ear infections due to their floppy ears, thick ear leather, and moisture-trapping hair.
Poodles and Doodles often experience ear issues, skin sensitivities, and matting-related discomfort.
Bulldogs and French Bulldogs may have breathing difficulties, skin fold infections, and heat sensitivity.
Senior dogs of any breed may struggle with arthritis, balance issues, or reduced tolerance for standing.
These conditions are not anyone’s fault — they’re simply part of responsible dog ownership and care.
Why This Matters During Grooming
Grooming involves handling sensitive areas such as ears, feet, joints, and skin. If a dog has a pre-existing condition, even gentle, routine grooming can cause discomfort or flare-ups without proper precautions.
For example:
Cleaning or drying ears that already have an underlying infection can cause pain or irritation.
Dogs with arthritis may struggle with standing or certain positions.
Skin conditions can react to friction, moisture, or products if we aren’t aware ahead of time.
This is why disclosure and communication are critical — not to exclude dogs, but to protect them.
Your Role as a Dog Owner
We strongly encourage all pet parents to:
Stay informed about what your dog’s breed is commonly prone to
Keep up with routine veterinary care
Inform your groomer of any known or suspected medical conditions, even if they seem minor
Let us know if your dog has had recent ear issues, skin flare-ups, mobility changes, or behavioral stress
If a condition is active or suspected, we may recommend postponing certain services or seeking veterinary clearance first — always in your dog’s best interest.
Our Commitment to Safe, Compassionate Grooming
We welcome dogs of all breeds, ages, and backgrounds. Our intake process is designed to help us tailor grooming services to each individual dog, taking into account health, comfort, and emotional well-being.
When we work together — groomer, owner, and veterinarian — we create the safest possible environment for your dog.
Thank you for trusting us with your pets and for partnering with us in their care.
